PROUD seeks equal rights for all people in the Czech society regardless of sexuality or gender. Education and awareness is the logical way to improve the attitude of the Czech society towards LGBT+ people. Therefore, an entire section is dedicated to education.
The education section informs the public of LGBT issues and tries to contribute to their better understanding. These activities are aimed at secondary schools students – they can attend e.g. seminars for better understanding of non-heterosexual people. The aim is not only to reduce the negative phenomena, such as bullying, but also promote critical thinking and evaluation of information from different media. There are also educational activities for social workers. For the future we’re planning education for teachers who would be instructed how to teach about gender-sensitive issues by our specialists. The education section also participates in the Prague Pride Festival and The Congress of Women.
The seminars for schools are free and tailor-made according to the needs of the clients. They can be ordered by June 2014 at Duhová výchova (Rainbow Education) where you can also learn more. The preparation of seminars, activities and tutors/lecturers has been supervised by Irena Smetáčková from the Section of School and Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague, who is involved in gender-sensitive education, and Zdeněk Svoboda, a sociologist and media educator at the Centre of Cultural, Media and Communication studies, Palacký University in Olomouc.
