bePROUD is the gala night where we present the awards to those who bring more equality in the lives of LGBT people in our society. The „proud” in its name indicates diversity and support for the emancipation and recognition of LGBT people in our society. Our event is inspired by the gala nights such as those organized for many years by GLAAD in the U.S. or Stonewall in the U.K.
bePROUD takes place on 17 May, the International Day Against Homphobia (IDAHO), and during it the PROUD platform presents the awards to projects and people who have contributed most to the well-being of the LGBT community.
Since 2012 the bePROUD awards gala night is a continuation of the Colour Planet awards, which were established in 2008 by Janis Sidovský. Previous holders of the awards are famous activists like Jiří Hromada, Ivo Procházka or Marcela Šulcová, the veteran director or the Mezipatra film festival Aleš Rumpel or projects such as ArtForLife or Dům světla (House of Light).
PROUD presents the awards for last year’s deed, something that contributed the most to increase the visibility of the LGBT community or helped it the most. We cast a wide net on-line, to make nominations available to regional projects as well, or projects that are less known, despite their quality and benefits.
We hand out five awards:
- bePROUD for Lifetime achievement
- bePROUD for Deed of the year
- bePROUD for Employeer of the year
- bePROUD Media award
- bePROUD rainbow anti-award
This event has its own web site at www.beproud.cz and on FB bePROUD.
